The Abbot and his novice collecting alms
Each morning at dawn the Monks go out to collect alms as part of their daily ritual and this will be their only meal for the day before prayer. The Novices then head off to school for the day.
Spinning cotton
Cotton is grown in the south of Laos, picked and spun the traditional way.
Old new bags
Over the last 10 years we’ve gathered quite a collection of beautiful antique hill tribe textiles and costumes. From the discarded and worn out we have produced our latest collection of bags.

Rocky coastline of Norway

Our family tree has extended far and wide reaching Scandinavia and each year we are lucky enough to visit the Southern coast of Norway with its very unique rocky coastline. Excellent spot for a bit of fishing.

Post boxes, Norway

Came across these letter boxes during a stroll and thought it was sweet how each house has customise their own boxes.
Wild berries

Our favourite past time during our stay in Norway was walking in the forest picking the wild berries, they smell so good and taste so sweet.

Vintage glass floats

These beautiful handmade glass bouys covered in crochet netting made of jute and were attached to fishing nets. Many would become loose and float away.
Sometimes a net was lost or the netting would rot, releasing the glass balls to float in the ocean, sometimes for many years, before the tide brought them to a beach.
Often they are covered in Barnacles when discovered on the beach.
Vintage Ethnic Clothing

Many of our weavers are from minority ethnic hill tribes living along the borders of Vietnam, China, Burma and Thailand. Each can be identified through their traditional clothing and each with their own particular textile traditions such as ikat, embroidery or applique. With a collection gathered over the years, we have decided to create something new from something old.

Pom pom machine

This is our pom pom making machine, made of recycled rose wood and bamboo sticks. At least 1000 pom poms were made in June for an upcoming lampshade project, images will be posted soon.
Rice paddy mud

The wonder of nature! These colours were created by leaving the silk in the rice paddy mud. A quick soak created browns and greys, for darker colours the silk must be left in the mud for several days or the mud can be boiled. A very labour intensive project but some amazing colours can be produced.

Easton Pearson

The Habitus Conversations series at Designer Rugs, where one of my favourite Australian designers, Easton Pearson, talked about their collaboration with Designer Rugs as well as their own Easton Pearson fashion label. Wonderful, honest and inspiring it was and even better to meet the lovely Lydia and Pamela. Perhaps a collaboration one day.
